Turkey's best-known pop star has been charged with using and possessing drugs.
Tarkan, who goes by one name, was detained in a narcotics raid in Istanbul last week along with ten other people. Prosecutors on Monday released him pending trial. No trial date has been set yet.
A group of his fans waited outside the courthouse, singing a Tarkan song entitled Be Patient my Pearl.
The Dogan news agency said the singer confessed to using cocaine, expressed regret for disappointing fans and promised to go clean during questioning.
The star has sold millions of records in Turkey, and has performed once in the UAE; playing to hundreds of fans in Dubai Media City in 2007. He reached the top of
various music charts in 1998 with Simarik, also known as Kiss, Kiss.
