The niece of Britain's junior defence minister told police she was a "monster" after plunging a knife into a young Frenchman she picked up in a bar, a French court heard yesterday.

"I just wanted to cut him a little but the knife went in by itself," Jessica Davies told police who arrived after she called emergency services in the small hours of November 11, 2007, the court heard.

The police found her kneeling naked on the bed of her apartment – in the chic Paris suburb of Saint-Germain-en-Laye – trying to stem the flow of blood from the body of 24-year-old Olivier Mugnier.

Davies told police "I did it. I can't tell you why, but I did it... I am a monster," the court heard as a legal official read out the charge sheet.
