Going by the number of people crowding around to watch table football in the various recreational areas in Dubai’s malls, it seems a popular pastime. As in a real football match, emotions run high, with rival teams doing their best to beat each other and supporters egging them on from the sidelines.
But how much more interesting and intense would this game become if the players on the table were to resemble your favourite football stars, friends or relatives?
In that case, you could fulfill your fantasy of playing alongside Pele or become the captain of a dream team with all the world’s best football players as your teammates or just create a team of your best friends and family members as players.
Not possible? Well, get ready to be wowed as this is exactly what the Eleven Forty Company offers you with the Opus football table.
With a starting price of £12,750 (Dh92,340), this hand-crafted, customised table comes with three dimensional micro-cast heads that can look like anyone you would want on your dream team.
And the best part is, the person does not have to be there for any sittings or casting sessions. Using computer technology, the Eleven Forty Company can cast the heads from photographs. So you can have just about anyone in the world on your team.
The Opus is crafted in etched glass, stainless steel and a choice of woods including oak, ash, walnut and mahogany. It is already being sold in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Singapore. The Opus will soon debut in the UAE where football lovers will be able to see it and even own it.
Speaking to Emirates Business, the director of Eleven Forty Company, Gordon Gunn said: “We are coming to Dubai in March to meet prospective clients. The Opus will be on display at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) on March 17, 18 and 19. The starting price of the Opus is from £12,750 however, many clients spend well in excess of this.”
Detailing the special features of the Opus, Gunn said: “We have sculptors who create the heads using Doppelganger technology, which enables us to micro cast three-dimensional player heads from a simple photograph.
For Gunn it all began when his friend and business partner decided to add a little more passion to the game by making the players on the football table resemble him and his close friends.
“My friend’s desire to own a personalised football table started us off on this venture. He knew a technology existed to enable us to do this and I thought we could create a high-end luxury version that would appeal to celebrities like Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams, etc, so we set out to start work on it. We knew if we liked the concept so much there would be others who would love to own a customised football table.
“It took us three-and-a-half years of hard work to make the Opus a reality, but in the end we did it. The result is a Bentley or Aston Martin equivalent of a football table. We had to ensure that the quality would meet very exacting standards and that the design of the product would also have to support our creation as a luxury piece of furniture or fabulous work of art. “Given the strong editorial coverage we have received across 32 countries in the world, we are confident that we have achieved our aim.” |
