Indian shares dive 9.75 per cent, trading halted

India's main share index fell 9.75 per cent at the Tuesday opening, triggering an automatic one-hour halt in trading, the Bombay Stock Exchange said.

The benchmark 30-share Sensex halted trading at 15,888.64, down 1,716.71 points or 9.75 per cent.

The index had closed down 7.41 percent Monday, the steepest one-day fall ever. (AFP)
