Abu Dhabi Gas Industries and 23 other companies have won the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award, introduced eight years ago to encourage firms to perform better.

The winners were from several sectors, including industry, services, tourism, trade, construction and other fields. Eight companies were handed the Gold Award, while 16 establishments won Quality Appreciation Certificates.

Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco), one of the largest gas producers in the Middle East, was among the Gold Award winners, along with the National Drilling Company, Tabreed, Kanoo Machinery. Winner of the Quality Certificates included Arab Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade, Al Qudra Holding, Fast Rent a Car, and Millennium Hotel. Last night’s ceremony was the eighth since Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award was introduced in 2000 as an incentive to the private sector to improve its performance.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, presenting the prizes, said: “We do not see the award as one of material value or as a competition won by some and lost by others. Rather it is a mechanism that contributes to upgrading the performance of institutions and companies as well as the spread of the culture of progress and innovation. It is an active means to upgrade the sector and achieve the strategic tendencies of developing the potential and skills of the private sector in Abu Dhabi.”
