35 Sharjah schools to hike fees

As many as 35 private schools in Sharjah have been given the nod to hike fees by 15-30 per cent for the coming academic year 2010-2011, reported Khaleej Times.

An official committee is looking into files of schools that applied for a fee increase.

Fawziya Hassan, Director of the Sharjah Education Zone, said a private school is eligible for 5-10 per cent school fee increase after a year of the last approved increase and 10-20 per cent hike after two years, and 20-30 per cent after three years of the last increase, according to the newspaper

Some private schools’ management said fee increase was vital to for the smooth functioning of the schools, which otherwise would face shutdown.
