Cabinet approves 2009 budget for Federal Customs

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, chaired a meeting of the Cabinet at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

The Cabinet approved the 2009 budget for the Federal Customs Authority, as well as a budget of Dh187 million for the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme in 2009.

The Cabinet agreed to a request by the Federal National Council to discuss the Federal Electricity and Water Authority policy, and approved the launch of an award to be given to progressive initiatives in the fields of development and social care. The Cabinet decided to amend Decision No.15 of 2007, which formed a national task force to fight human trafficking, by increasing committee membership to include representatives from the public prosecution. In an effort to curb the use of steroids in sport, the Cabinet endorsed an international agreement put forward by Unesco.

The Cabinet ratified the UAE's membership of the Nuclear Safety Agreement and approved an additional protocol signed with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Cabinet also approved an accord on the safe disposal of radioactive waste, as well as a tax agreement with Kazakhstan.

Yesterday, Sheikh Mohammed also met Mayor of Dalian Xia Deren and discussed bilateral relations between the UAE and China as well as rapid increase in trade.
