Convicts get prison terms

The Dubai Criminal Court issued sentences in six different cases yesterday, sentencing 11 convicts to jail terms and deportation.

Among these, an Arab, SM, marketing manager, and a Briton, SS, 30, advertising manager, were sentenced to four years in jail to be followed by deportation for consuming hashish. They were arrested in October last year and charged with taking drugs.

In another case, MH, 33, salesman, and MA, 42, jobless, both Asians, were sentenced to a year in jail followed by deportation for using a forged passport to rent a car and attempting to sell it for Dh11,000.

Three Asians, LA, 40, salesman, GB, 22 and AA, 29, both labourers, were sentenced to six months in jail before being deported for robbing a warehouse owned by the victim, SK.

Asian AN, 31, accountant for a club, was sentenced to six months in jail and fined Dh4,800 for stealing a similar sum from his employer.
