The Roads and Transport Authority has awarded a Dh699 million contract for the construction of entry and exit points at the Dubai Metro's car parking facility in Al Rashidiya to Emirates Road Contracting Co (ERCC).

In a meeting chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, the board approved the awarding of the contract for the project – listed under the Emirates Road Widening Project – an integral initiative being undertaken to eliminate traffic jams in the emirate and ease the flow of traffic.

Al Tayer said the ERCC submitted the best bid among three bidders. The winning bid includes the construction of additional directional ramps at the junction of Emirates Road and Al Khawaneej Road, in addition to two crossings at Al Khawaneej to ease traffic flow from and to entry and exit points of the Al Rashidiya Metro Station, with a total length of 2.5km.

"These works are part of the RTA's efforts to upgrade the key road networks in the emirate and link the car parks of Metro stations with the roads of Dubai. We are moving ahead with widening and developing the main and arterial roads in the emirate, as provided for in the Strategic Plan of the RTA covering the next few years," Al Tayer said.
