The Dubai Criminal Court issued sentences in five different cases yesterday, sentencing three Arab nationals and two Asians to jail terms and deportation.
A 37-year-old Asian cleaner at Hyatt Regency Hotel, AF, was sentenced to three months and deportation for stealing a diamond ring from the room occupied by guest while cleaning it.
Arab national, ND, 24, a visitor, was sentenced to three months' prison and deportation for stealing two boxes of razors from a Choitram store.
In another case a 25-year-old Asian, FF, was given three months' jail and deportation for impersonating a policeman and producing an identity card belonging to policeman, R, when an officer from the force, Salah Salem, asked him to prove his identity.
Arab national, MB, 22, was sentenced to three months in jail for threatening UAE national Humaid Saeed with a knife for parking his car at the gate of the former's home while waiting for his wife.
Nineteen-year-old Arab, SS, was sentenced to three months with a stay in execution for stealing Dh40 from a woman.
He stole the money after she withdrew it from an ATM. Defendant's age and student status were considerations in granting the stay.
Cars, certificates and visas
- The Dubai Criminal Court yesterday adjourned to February 21 a case of forgery because the accused, who is in custody, was not produced in court.
Asian JH, 33, allegedly forged three employment visas and sold them to Amzad Hussein for Dh24,000.
- Three Asians – AA, 22, RA, 25 and AS, 25, all jobless – have been accused of stealing cars by the public prosecution. Only the second defendant attended yesterday's hearing and he denied the charge.
The court adjourned to February 21.
- A 36-year-old Pakistani visitor, AH, is accused of possessing a forged academic certificate with a forged revenue stamp. He denied the charge.
