Key Deyaar witness absent from court

The absence of key prosecution witness, audit expert Mohammed Mustafa Hussein, caused the Dubai Criminal Court to adjourn a case of bribery and embezzlement at real estate developer Deyaar to February 28.

Hussein has prepared a financial report in the case about the alleged financial corruption indulged in by the accused and Deyaar’s consequent loss. The accused are former UAE minister MK, US national ZS and Indian JM, who is at large.

Hussein was supposed to complete discussions on a complementary report at yesterday’s hearing, which he had presented to the court earlier. In the report, he had determined the amounts by which MK had profited and the value of losses which the property developer incurred due to his acts.

Yesterday’s session was attended by Khalid Ahmed Amin, who is a representative of the Financial Audit Department of the Dubai Ruler’s Office.

He submitted an apology for Hussein’s absence, which said he was busy with issues related to his job.

Emirates Business has learnt that Hussein is busy in finalising investigations conducted by the Dubai Public Prosecution, which are related to new corruption cases due to be announced and referred to the court soon. He is the main prosecution witness in these cases since he is the one who has compiled the audit reports in all of them.
