Khalifa urges action to face challenges

The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, yesterday reached Kuwait, heading the UAE delegation to the Arab Economic Conference.

Sheikh Khalifa was received at the Kuwait International Airport by Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Jaber, and senior Kuwaiti officials.

Accorded official reception at the arrival, Sheikh Khalifa greeted Kuwaiti sheikhs, ministers, dignitaries and senior Kuwaiti army officers.

At his arrival, Sheikh Khalifa issued a statement, highlighting the significance of the two-day event, being held in Kuwait City from today.

FULL TEXT OF THE STATEMENT:

"We are happy to be in Kuwait to participate in the Arab Economic Conference, which will be attended by the Arab leaders.

"This summit is the first of its kind to be held upon the initiative of brother Emir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Jaber in order to boost joint Arab economic co-operation and achieve Arab socio-economic renaissance through realisation of socio-economic security.

"Based on our belief that the basic means of achieving national Arab security is through accomplishment of socio-economic security, we hope this conference will be a blessed step to activate the joint Arab action in all directions.

"We also look forward that the conference will revamp mechanisms of the Arab Economic Council and activate the strategies of comprehensive development in the Arab countries.

"The challenges facing the Arab nations today amid current global financial crisis and globalisation era require agreement on appropriate attitudes to avert repercussions of the crisis and set effective strategies in order to incorporate in the knowledge driven economy.

"We welcome the economic forum, which will bring together private sector with the Arab organisations at the sideline of the conference. Such a gathering will have a role in flow of investments among the Arab countries."
