A 47-year-old Arab, accused of killing his nephew who raped his daughter, was yesterday sentenced to 15 years in jail followed by deportation by the Dubai Criminal Court.
The Public Prosecution had charged TB with premeditated murder based on the evidence that he had lured the victim, AB, to a warehouse in Al Quoz owned by his company, surprised him with a blow to the head with an iron bar and then strangled him to death with a rope. He then buried the body at the site of the murder.
Sentencing the convict yesterday, the court ruled that a civil case filed by the victim's relatives against the convict would be referred to specialised civil court. TB had killed his nephew because the latter raped his 14-year-old daughter, who became pregnant, and then refused to marry her.
At an earlier hearing, the defence had pleaded to reduce the penalty, arguing that the defendant had been driven to commit the crime by his nephew's misdeeds. The defence asked for the application of the "alleviating condition", as the victim provoked the defendant by refusing to marry TB's daughter after AB allegedly raped her.
