A 22-year-old Arab youth has been arrested for killing a 40-year-old UAE national who allegedly wanted to have sexual relations with him.

Colonel Hammad Ahmed Al Hammadi, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said accused YH was arrested immediately after the murder. The victim was identified as AA.

"Investigations by a team from the CID, which specialises in such crimes, found that the defendant and the victim got to know each other recently. They used to drink liquor together, according to the defendant's confession, and this brought them close," said Al Hammadi. "The murder took place when they came back to the victim's villa after a drinking session. The victim wanted to have sex with the defendant and that led to a quarrel between them. The victim had a knife and twice attempted to stab the defendant, who was injured in his right hand while trying to avoid the knife. However, he was finally able to disarm the victim and grab the knife, with which he stabbed him in the belly and the back."

YH ran away from the villa after washing his hands and threw the murder weapon near the door, closing it behind him, Al Hammadi added. The accused was arrested with the help of information given by the owner of the building in which the victim was living.

Al Hammadi advised families to monitor their sons to prevent them from following a path of crime and deviant behaviour. He underlined the role of the institutions concerned in reminding society of the dangers of deviant behaviour and the development of religious and moral principles.
