'Mistreatment' leads to murder

A man accused of murder told police he carried out the attack because the victim had mistreated his relatives, Dubai Criminal Court heard yesterday.

Corporal Mohammed Ali of Dubai Police received a report that a murder had taken place in the Al Habab area. He went to the location and saw the victim's body and a broken knife.

It appeared that the accused, SN, 32, an Asian, had killed him.

After the defendant was arrested, he admitted killing the victim and said he had carried out the attack because the victim had mistreated his relatives.

At an earlier session, the accused said he acted in self-defence as the victim came to his home holding a knife and attempted to stab him. The defendant said he took the knife from the victim's hand and stabbed him without intending to kill him. A lawyer was appointed to represent SN, who attended the hearing.

The case has been adjourned until March 1.

The public prosecution has been instructed to tell the witnesses to attend the next session.
