MoE website to display patent laws

Proposed changes to the law covering patents and industrial design will be displayed on the Ministry of Economy's (MoE) website so that interested parties can provide feedback.

The proposals relate to Law No 31 of 2006, which modified Law No 17 of 2002. Comments are being invited from specialists and those interested in intellectual property rights.

Director-General Mohammed Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al Shihhi said that as economic trends in the UAE followed international technological and economic developments, the MoE constantly sought to modernise legislation to ensure it remained in line with these changes. "This reflects positively on the national economy and contributes to the provision of a safe investment environment in order to attract top investment projects from around the world.

"The MoE is drawing up a draft law to modify the legislation so it is in line with international agreements signed by the UAE and the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. New articles have been added to protect confidential information."
