Naimiy project scientist for observatory

Astronomy expert Professor Hamid Al Naimiy has been appointed project scientist for a scheme to establish a UAE national observatory.

Al Naimiy, the Dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Sharjah, will give guidance and advice on choosing the best location for the facility.

The appointment by the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology is in line with a memorandum of understanding signed with the university to exchange technical and human resources expertise.

Al Naimiy will lead the formulation of a user requirement statement for the UAE National Astronomical Observatory and Telescope project that will include scientific, educational and tourism elements.

He will oversee the general goals and areas of activity of the observatory and its components.
