A flock of 70 endangered houbara bustards bred in captivity was released in the Western Region yesterday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi.

The birds were released as part of Abu Dhabi's efforts to protect the houbara and reintroduce more than 50,000 in their natural habitat in order to increase the population in its geographic home range. The birds were bred at the National Avian Research Centre of the International Fund for Houbara Conservation.
