Well Armed, ridden by Aaron Gryder for US-based trainer Eoin Harty, galloped to a runaway victory in Saturday's $6 million Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race.

Third last year to Curlin, Well Armed, a 10-1 shot in London betting, made all the running in the 10 furlong (2-km) event and won unchallenged by 14 lengths.

Second place in the 14-strong field went to French raider Gloria de Campeao with Saudi Arabian 66-1 outsider Paris Perfect in third.

Gryder said: "It felt great. He warmed up great. He put half a length in front (of the others) with no energy and then we could relax a bit."

Saturday's World Cup was the 14th since its inception in 1996 but the last to be raced at the Nad Al Sheba track. The 2010 event will be staged nearby at the new Meydan complex.
