New clubs on the block

With the chilly weather putting a damper on the UAE’s outdoor club scene, there’s no better time to venture inside this winter and try a few new places. Emirates Business brings you a guide to some hotspots.

CLUB TRIBE

Located at Dubai’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, Club Tribe is one of the best new venues to open in the UAE. The place really heated up on New Year’s Eve, when DJ Shadow played alongside Rishi Rich, RDB and Veronica.

According to the organisers, the nightclub will bring together a wide variety of club nights, including Asian, R&B, hip-hop, house, and cheese nights. One night to especially look out for is Friction, which launches tonight from 10pm, with London DJ duo, The Hoxton Whores, spinning live. Other names set to grace Club Tribe’s decks in the future include Alex P and Walley Lopez.

Also on the cards is the 1980s Traffic Jam with DJ Dave spinning the best sounds from the retro years.

COST: Prices vary according to the day of the week, but expect to pay Dh120 on Fridays.

SUBMARINE

We absolutely love this new hangout for clubbers. Keeping up somewhat to its name, the Submarine is in the basement of the Dhow Palace Hotel in Bur Dubai.

For a party venue where local music bands play, the place is now picking up the speed fast thanks to the introduction of Kazeen Event’s Plus Minus Weekly Sessions every Thursday night.

Already an underground favourite thanks to its fan-following on social networking site Facebook, Plus Minus will feature house DJs including Darren Lewis and Mark Chambers.

COST: It’s free before midnight on Thursdays, but Dh50 after.

ELEGANTE

While it may not have been their intention to bring the music scene back to downtown Dubai, the organisers behind Elegante have certainly done a good job encouraging club-goers to go beyond the realms of Jumeirah and Sheikh Zayed Road on a night out.

Located in Bur Dubai’s Royal Ascot Hotel, Elegante arguably has one of the best sound systems in the city. Paul Oakenfold recently played there and Paul Hamilton and DJ Cowboy have regular nights on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

COST: Prices vary, but reservations are a must.

VISTA LOUNGE

Thanks to the recent opening of the InterContinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City, we now have more excuses to go and spend ridiculous amounts of money at the mall.

Why, do you ask? Well, because now we can chill out afterwards at Vista, the hotel’s new beautiful lounge bar.

Featuring impeccable views of the Dubai skyline as well as live entertainment in the evenings, Vista is the perfect place for a chilled night out. Great for meeting with colleagues or business partners.

COST: Entry is free; food and drink prices vary.

NEW ASIA

Dubai’s brand new Egyptian-themed hotel, Raffles, located near Wafi in Oud Metha, features some of the nicest hangouts, including Crossroads and the China Moon Champagne bar. While Crossroads specialises in Singapore-style beverages, China Moon, located on the top floor of the hotel, boasts a sweeping view of the Dubai skyline.

But the New Asia Bar and Club is the place to hit, featuring the only dance-floor overlooking Dubai, along with a resident DJ and an open atrium area.

New Asia transforms from a tranquil bar by day into a vibrant club by night.

COST: Prices vary according to theme night.
