Nine people were killed Thursday and at least 20 injured, some critically, when two buses collided head-on near the Bangladesh capital Dhaka, police said.
"There were around 80 passengers on the two buses. They crashed when one bus tried to overtake an auto-rickshaw," said local police inspector Salim Sazzad.
Four of the injured suffered serious injuries, he added.
The accident took place at Keraniganj just south of Dhaka.
Bus accidents are common in Bangladesh, where rival companies compete for passengers, resulting in dangerous driving and speeding. (AFP)
