The third phase of Dubai Bypass Road is due to open tomorrow ahead of completion of the project at the end of this month, according to the Roads and Transport Authority.

Once complete, the road will link Sharjah’s border with Abu Dhabi’s.

Maitha bin Adai, chief executive of the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the third stage of the project, which started in February 2006, was constructed at a cost of Dh350 million.

It extends for 25 kilometres from the new Al Rawiyah Intersection at Dubai-Al Ain Road to Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road – and consists of six lanes in each direction.

The intersection of this stage of Dubai Bypass Road with Al Qudra Road will be completed with a temporary roundabout that will be replaced by a permanent bridge at the end of this year. The intersection with Jebal Ali-Al Hebab Rd will be developed into a flyover bridge in future, she said.

“The construction work of phase four, extending from the Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road to the outskirts of Abu Dhabi is well under way. The road is expected to be completed by the end of 2008,” said bin Adai.
