Pele in Abu Dhabi to open football academy

Soccer legend Pele has arrived in the UAE to pursue his goal to establish a football academy.

He was greeted on his arrival by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Director General of Higher Colleges of Technology Dr Tayyib Kamali said an academy was a comprehensive project targeting youngsters aged five to 18 for sports and cultural training with an emphasis on Brazilian method of football.

The Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training, affiliated to the Higher Colleges of Technology, of which Sheikh Nahyan is the Chancellor, has always collaborated with international institutions to learn from their experiences.

Kamali said youngsters are expected to benefit from the academy. (Wam)
