A powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Alaska's Aleutian islands on Wednesday and sparked a tsunami warning in some Alaskan coastal areas, officials said.
The quake's epicenter was located 200 kilometres west of Adak and 2,098 kilometres west-southwest of Anchorage, and hit at 0930 GMT, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for the coastal areas from Nikolski to Attu off the west coast of mainland Alaska, urging coastal residents to move immediately inland and stay alert for further instructions from local authorities. (AFP)
