Iran starts enriching uranium to 20%

Iran announced yesterday it has begun work to enrich uranium to 20 per cent, dismissing warnings of new sanctions from world powers who suspect the sensitive nuclear project is aimed at making a bomb.

The announcement sent alarm bells ringing in the West, with the United States saying it added urgency to its efforts to clinch new sanctions against Tehran.


Militia try to attack embassy

Dozens of members of Iran's religious Basij militia tried to attack Italy's embassy in Tehran yesterday, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said. Similar incidents occurred at the French and Dutch embassies.
