A suicide bomber killed at least eight people at the funeral on Friday of a policeman killed earlier in the day in Pakistan's militant-ridden northwest, police officials said.
The funeral was being held in Swat, a mountainous region where Pakistani security forces have been battling Islamist militants for months. The policeman being buried was one of three killed by a roadside bomb in Bannu, a town at the gateway to the troubled North Waziristan tribal region.
Karamat Shah, a police deputy superintendent, said at least eight people were killed in the blast at the funeral. Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema had said earlier that at least five people were killed and 50 wounded and the death toll was likely to rise. (Reuters)
