Turkey asks Kuwait to help build refinery

Turkey has asked Kuwait to participate in building a new oil refinery in Turkey, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA on Wednesday quoted the country’s acting oil minister Mohammad Al Olaim as saying.

KUNA gave no more details about the project, adding that Turkey also wanted Opec member Kuwait to invest in crude storage facilities. Kuwait is the world's seventh-largest oil exporter.

Olaim, who is on a visit to Turkey, said Kuwait would make a decision about these projects after having carried out a feasibility study, KUNA said.

Olaim told Kuwaiti daily Al Qabas the Gulf Arab state was considering using the Turkish port of Ceyhan to store Kuwaiti crude as a gateway to Europe.

Kuwait gave the nod last week to take a stake in building a new $6 billion refinery in Vietnam and is also in talks to take a role in new plants in China and India. (Reuters)
