The UAE has banned on Sunday the importation of all livestock from the province of Mpumalanga in South Africa following reported cases of rift valley fever (RVF). A ministerial resolution on a temporary ban was issued by Minister of Environment and Water Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad. The resolution has instructed the Animal Wealth Department at the Ministry to coordinate with other concerned local agencies for the implementation of the policy. The UAE undertook the initiative after receiving a report from the World Organisation for Animal Health regarding an outbreak of RVF in Mpumalanga, South African. ''The move aims to prevent any infiltration of epidemic and communicable diseases into the country in order to protect the health, well-being and safety of both humans and animals,'' the resolution said.
