The UAE’s first national authority for scientific research is set to launch and will be allocated Dh100 million as an annual budget to carry out research as well as fund private projects across the country.
According to the UAE's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the authority will finance research projects of strategic importance to the society, as well as carry out its own annual research in various fields of science, including engineering, technology and economy. HE Minister Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan made the announcement during a press conference in Abu Dhabi on Friday, saying that the establishment of the national authority for scientific research is a natural outcome of the country's fast economic growth. He said that this move comes within the framework of the ministry's strategic plan which was endorsed by the cabinet.
“It is time that we intensified our initiatives in the field of scientific research in order to absorb latest technology and scientific achievements into the country,” Sheikh Nahyan said. The authority will have an annual budget of Dh100m from the next fiscal year, Sheikh Nahyan said, expressing his hope that the private sector will make additional contributions to this vital sector.
