Rambo could learn a thing or two from Dubai's stunt driver

Published

A teenager was riding on a motorbike and doing stunt in front of us. Suddenly, he turned back while driving, and waved as if to ask us to follow him.

My husband, on the wheel, was surprised, and he asked me – why is he waving at us?

I turned back and couldn’t speak or say a word. My eyes were wide open at what I saw. A police patrol. Yes, the teenager was waving at the police patrol to follow him. He was challenging the policeman and inviting him to race with him.

I couldn’t believe it. On the other side, the policeman was not interested at all. He was driving at a very low speed, maybe less than 60km/hour and did not show any interest in following the teenager despite the fact that he was violating the traffic laws. His motorbike did not have a number plate either.

To encourage the patrol, he showed off, and started doing more stunt. This was really thrilling. It reminded me of a scenes in the movie Need for Speed.

So many things jumped onto my mind.

1.     The man did not fear the policeman or the law

2.     He did not have any thoughts for the possible injuries which he may get from such dangerous driving

3.     I felt sorry and sad for his family who will definitely be shocked and suffer from his reckless driving if he God forbids ended up losing his life or getting seriously injured

Dubai Police patrols have strict orders not to chase reckless drivers on the road as they don’t want the chase to end up in an accident which may not only put the reckless driver in danger, but may also harm other motorists on the road.

This is a strange thing to see in a country like the UAE, were majority of nationals and expatriates live in harmony and have great respect for the laws, and the police.

I have seen many motorists who do stunt driving, but they generally vanish when they see a police patrol. But challenging the policeman and pushing him to race is something which I cannot still believe.

By the way, we were going to the cinema to watch ‘Expendables’ the latest action movie by Sylvester Stallone. But believe me. There was more thrill and action in what I saw on the road that day than in the movie.

So sad. I wish if this kind of thrill, action and stunt driving was in the movie only, not on the road.  So bad it was not a movie.
