Aussie Rogers sparkles as Derby claim historic win

Australian Chris Rogers' stunning two innings total of 360 runs inspired Derbyshire to their first victory over Surrey at The Oval since England's footballers won the World Cup in 1966 on Monday.

The 32-year-old – capped just once by Australia against India in 2008 – became the first Derbyshire batsman to score a double century and a century in a county match as he captained them to a famous win, albeit in a Second Division match. Derbyshire's bowlers ensured that his valiant efforts did not go unrewarded as they bowled out Surrey for 165 in their second innings – Tim Groenewald's getting rid of former England batsman Mark Ramprakash proving crucial as the visitors ran out winners by 208 runs.

In the First Division, Yorkshire's former South African Test batsman Jacques Rudolph played a pivotal role as he scored his second half century of the opening match of the season as they ran out winners over Warwickshire by four wickets. Rudolph was integral to Yorkshire's win after they slumped to 123 for 5, putting on a sixth wicket partnership of 153 with 20-year-old wicketkeeper Jonathan Bairstow (81).

South African-born Dutch international all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate virtually won the match singlehandedly as Essex beat Hampshire by 62 runs. He scored an unbeaten half-century, and returned figures of five for 13 from 5.5 overs as Hampshire were bowled out for 185.
