For Morgan Pressel, winning the Solheim Cup last week represented "the highlight of her career".
Often derided as insignificant and one-sided – the United States defeated Europe for the third successive time on Sunday – the 21-year-old's comments prove the biennial tournament matters.
Pressel holed the decisive putt on the final day at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois, beating Anna Nordqvist to clinch the trophy for the US.
The young Tampa terrier had already featured in a winning Solheim Cup team and remains unbeaten in the pressure of singles competition. Her success should come as no surprise as Pressel has been making a name for herself from an early age.
In 2001, she became the youngest player to qualify for the US Women's Open aged 12 and then completed an amateur grand slam five years later.
Her graduation to the LPGA was confirmed in May 2006 and less than a year later she became the youngest female to win a Major by clinching the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club.
