A trio of national selectors will be keeping their eyes on the leg-spin bowler when he turns out for South African province side Titans this week. The 29-year-old has represented Pakistan at different levels, but is yet to win full national honours. He could also qualify for England, as he currently plays with Hampshire, or South Africa as his wife hails from there.

Roger Federer

The US Open champion was back in action this week despite saying he needed a prolonged rest after winning at Flushing Meadows for the fifth time last month. The former world No1 takes on fourth seed Andy Murray – who he beat in the Grand Slam final in New York – in the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters, in Spain, today.

The Brazilian could be ready to pounce in Shanghai tomorrow as Lewis Hamilton seemingly tries his best to ruin another Formula One title challenge. The gap is down to five points and the Brit is getting edgy again.

Sergio Garcia

The skillful Spaniard will try to put last month's disappointing Ryder Cup performance behind him when he hosts the Castello Masters along with his father Victor at their home course, the Club de Campo de Mediterraneo. Despite having a relatively successful 2008, the 28-year-old only managed two and a half points against the US and will have a point to prove on Thursday.

With Jonny Wilkinson out injured, the English fly-half position is up for grabs and the Wasps back will be keen to impress new coach Martin Johnson when his club side take on Leinster tonight.
