Music fans beware. Maz Jobrani has decided to audition for American Idol. Well, kind of anyway.

The Iranian-American comedian – who recently enjoyed a two-night sell-out stint in Dubai as part of his Brown & Friendly Tour – is set to release his latest DVD at the end of the month. And Jobrani has vowed to switch careers if he doesn't reach a certain goal.

"My special aired on New Year's Eve and is now coming out on DVD on January 26," he said in a mailout. "We've created a Fan Pack so that you can purchase it directly from Mazjobrani.com and get a free T-shirt and signed poster with the DVD."

He continued: "My goal is to sell at least half of the number of albums Susan Boyle sold this past year.

"If I don't reach that goal I'll go on American Idol and make a fool of myself. Please order yours today or you'll have to listen to my singing sometime soon on Fox."

Simon Cowell might have something to say about that.

Jobrani has just been signed to star in a television family sitcom pilot, Funny in Farsi, based on the memoir by Iranian-born author Firoozeh Dumas about growing up in Calilfornia during the seventies.

He will play Mohammed Sayed Kazem (Kaz) Jazeyeri, an engineer for an oil company who emigrated with his family from Iran to Newport Beach.
