Five of the best... art exhibitions this week
Lita Cabellut and Jean-Pierre Roc-Roussey
Opera Gallery, DIFC, Dubai
The first Middle East show by the critically acclaimed European artists is on at DIFC until the end of next week. Cabellut has drawn on her memories of growing up in Barcelona to create a collection about the poor Gypsy community while Roc-Roussey is exhibiting a series about Asian women.

Wrap Me Up in You
Iranian artist Nargess Hashemi explores the conflicting feelings of endearment and frustration about her family in a series of drawings. Works include engagement parties, wedding photos or impromptu events, each composed entirely of black lines on transparent paper before being laid onto intricate wrapping paper that glistens when it catches the light.

The Third Line, Dubai
Pouran Jinchi's drawings in her second solo show in Dubai are made by scratching charcoal on thin paper to capture the textured surface underneath. Predominately made of circular motifs, they are based on the ritual of faith and the result of forms repeated over time.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Carbon 12, Dubai
Farzan Sadjadi's exhibition draws on his time as a military policeman. And although he describes the experience as "absurd", he uses it as inspiraton to create a raw series of paintings centred around dogs, having developed an affinity with those in his neighbourhood. It is a series of of bleak canvases that aim to remind us of the paradoxical world in which we live.

Artspace Gallery, DIFC, Dubai
Lebanese artist Hussein Madi is displaying his innovative contemporary paintings until February 11 having previously displayed in venues around the world, including the British Museum, Venice Biennale and Tokyo's Ueno Museum.
