Little guy has big talent

A huge star in America, and doing incredibly well in the UAE, hip-hop star Lil Wayne’s much-delayed latest opus has been long-awaited in certain quarters.

For those who are yet to hear his tracks, however, this album should see him gain plenty of new admirers, not least because of the presence of guest verses from stars, including hip-hop royalty Jay Z and Busta Rhymes. But that’s not all, because production comes courtesy of one of the world’s biggest stars at the moment, Kanye West.

Wayne’s constant references to the genre’s biggest names and innovators – Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Andre 3000 et al make it clear he’s intent on seeing his own name up there.

Despite the fact he’s not quite there yet, his distinctive wheezy delivery is infectious and that coupled with a line in quirky wordplay help make this a very good album, if not quite a great one.

Album highlights include You Ain’t Got Nuthin’ featuring Fabolous and Juelz Santana, and the incredibly infectious Lollipop, featuring Static Major.
