Movie Rock

So what can we expect? The cast of Rock On – including Farhan Akhtar, pictured above, Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli – are joined on stage on Thursday March 12 at the Aviation Club Dubai by the film's soundtrack composers, Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. The group will perform the chart-topping songs that made the soundtrack such a bestseller.

What's this about a Rock On tour? If bands can take their music on the road, why can't movies get in on the act? After the phenomenal success of Rock On, director-producer Farhan Akhtar's debut film last year, comes the touring movie concert. "We're excited to come together and perform live again. The response to the movie was phenomenal and we want to take the magic further," trills Akhtar.

But haven't they toured India already? Yes, and the Dubai show is their first international gig. The show is produced by Wizcraft International Entertainment and promoted by Event Concept. "We know a winner when we see one and Rock On has won many hearts and definitely been a winner this year. Wanting to take this magic overseas was only a natural next step. Dubai seemed an ideal destination," Wizcraft Director Sabbas Joseph said in a statement to Emirates Business. Adds Kohli, "I expect the crowds will be crazy – I've been getting messages from Dubai for a long time asking when we're coming there!"

So where do I get my tickets? For a ticket to Thursday's show, call Event Concept (050 152 4624 or 050 365 6480). Prices range from Dh150 to Dh1,000, and a portion of the proceeds goes to the Dubai Autism Centre.

Bob's back (AGAIN)

Why are those Irish eyes smiling? Sir Bob Geldof is back in Dubai to celebrate his favourite time of the year, St Patrick's Day. The former Boomtown Rats member returns to The Irish Village (where else?) this Friday, March 13 from 7pm.

What can I expect? If it's your first time, expect the venue to be packed, with Geldof partying till the early hours of dawn. What's great about his gigs is that he's a lot of fun to watch live.

Will there be any celebrity guests? We doubt his daughters, Pixie and Peaches, will be there, but Frankie Dettori is said to be a fan. If he's in town, he could be at the show.

Are tickets still available? Yes, and they cost Dh100. Call: 04 210 8567
