Superstar violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is to perform at one of three major concerts being held this month as part of the year-long Abu Dhabi Classics series.

The events will be staged at the Emirates Palace Auditorium by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach).

The London Philharmonia Orchestra will perform symphonic masterworks by Mozart and Beethoven at the first concert on January 14. The Philharmonia is one of world's great orchestras and is indelibly associated with conducting legends Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, Otto Klemperer and Carlo Maria Giulini.

It will perform under the direction of Finnish maestro Jukka-Pekka Saraste, whose appearance at the last season of Abu Dhabi Classics was one of the most popular nights of the series. This year he will present Beethoven's Fifth along with Mozart's Piano Concerto No 9 K271.

On January 15 the voices of Abu Dhabi children will be accompanied by the Philharmonia under Allan Wilson for a programme of melodies from the classic films of Walt Disney. Animator Paul Rissman will guide music and movie-lovers through the evening, which will feature Disney animations on a cinema screen behind the orchestra.
