If the fashion world were a country then Sabyasachi Mukherjee would be royalty.

The Indian designer's perfect marriage of rich Indian traditional textures and embellishments with bohemian earthy non-conventional weaves have distinguished him among his contemporaries. The 36-year-old couturier is set to visit Dubai next month with his latest collection coming to the city fresh from India Fashion Week.

A two-day trunk show has been organised on March 11 and 12 at the Raffles Hotel, where Mukherjee's latest range of trousseaux, sarees and western wear will be on show. The event has been organised by Indian specialty store Samsaara.

"We are extremely excited about hosting Mukherjee's collection," says Rohini Gehani, owner of Samsaara, "to get a chance to see his collection immediately after the Indian Fashion Week is a unique treat for our fashion savvy clientele.

"We pride ourselves on bringing India's best and brightest fashion designers to Dubai and the region and Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the quintessential example of that".

The Kolkata- based designer draws inspiration from Indian heritage, its traditional handicrafts and handlooms.

His work is now regularly seen on catwalks in New York and Milan and his clothes retail in the world's fashion capitals. Mukherjee has designed the costumes for four Bollywood films and is a winner of India's national award for film.
