The Dubai Municipality is on a drive to create awareness and safety culture among people to tackle heat stress during the summer.

The authority's Safe and Healthy Summer campaign, which runs until July 31, specially targets labourers and beach-goers as well as visitors to open spaces. The Municipality is organising the campaign for the second consecutive year.

The Dubai Municipality officials, with other supporters of the campaign, will visit different construction sites in the emirate until the end of July and educate people about heat stress, its symptoms, prevention methods and first-aid. They will distribute leaflets, urine charts, posters, water and hydration drinks as well as gifts such as T-shirts and caps.

Redha Hassan Salman, Director of Public Health and Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, said the campaign aims to achieve co-operation between the private sector and the government, in the area of safety and health of employees. It will create awareness on the importance of best practices at work during summer. "The campaign stresses importance of commitment to laws and regulations issued by the Municipality with respect to the safety of workers. We want to educate workers and all other sections of the society on the dangers of heat stress," he said.

He said that the campaign will cover 18 sites including public places such as jogging tracks, shopping centres, parks, metro stations and beaches in Dubai.
