Fans of tennis legend Boris Becker will have a chance to meet him on March 8 at an event at The Dubai Mall.

Becker, who is the chairman of Laureus, an association of sporting greats from around the world, is in the country to attend the Laureus World Sports Awards to be held in Abu Dhabi next week.

The former world number one and six-time grand slam champion, is also the brand ambassador for luxury Swiss watch manufacturer, IWC Schaffhausen, which is the host for the Dubai event.

The company said it will be unveiling special edition watches in support of underprivileged children and Becker will be on hand for the launch, to be held at the IWC boutique at The Dubai Mall.

Becker is also a supporter of Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which is a non-political charitable initiative that supports a number of projects in various countries. The foundation was established in 2000 by Daimler and Richemont and is supported by global partner IWC Schaffhausen.

Laureus is composed of three core elements: The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, the Laureus World Sports Awards and the Laureus World Sports Academy. Nelson Mandela, another patron of the foundation, gave the organisation its raison d'etre in 2000 when he famously said: "Sport has the power to change the world."
