From one high-end collection to another, Dubai Fashion 2010 mesmerised an audience consisting of Dubai's fashionistas and VIPs for an evening of exquisite style and elegance this week.

The event marked one of the culminating highlights of Dubai Shopping Festival's 15th edition, which came to an end last night.

High-end luxury fashion retailers Etoile la Boutique and Saks Fifth Avenue took the guests on distinctive journeys – one inspired by the glamour of trans-Atlantic voyage in the early 1900s and the other to a bold and exciting fashion-forward adventure.

Etoile La Boutique opened the show and impressed from beginning to end, with a chic display of fab dresses and elegant accessories.

One of the most applauded pieces was an airy Jitrois black ensemble and a stylish Valentino bag.

Throughout Etoile La Boutique's show, the transformation from one dress to another chronicled a journey on a cruise ship – from casual élan to elegant formal wear befitting an important and fashionable woman.

Meanwhile, Saks Fifth Avenue boldly promised a collection that will explore new fashion inspirations, and it did not disappoint.

With an intro featuring music from music's current leading fashion icon Lady Gaga, the collection featured an eccentric mix of feminine frills and safari accents as well as space-exploration inspired silhouettes.

Pleats, ruffles and bows combined elegantly with soft-muted color palettes, while sheer layered fabrics and floral prints mixed perfectly on the ready-to-wear collection and accessories.

For the more formal evening wear, the design inspirations were mostly body-conscious cuts and asymmetrical cut-outs, banding and shoulder-baring pieces.

The glittering and glamorous display continued with an exquisite display of jewellery from the Paris-based Korloff.

Each collection was presented alongside elegant couture gowns from Ayesha Depala and Sauce.

Highlights included the Miss France collection, as well as the Dubai debut of a unique double-faced timepiece.

Backstage, hair and make-up was provided by P&G Beauty's Max Factor and Braun style team.

Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Fashion 2010 highlighted Dubai's stature as one of the fashion capitals and trendsetters of the Middle East.
