Oscar winning Indian musician AR Rahman is in the race to win his second Golden Globe after being nominated in the Best Original Score category for his music in the Danny Boyle directed film 127 Hours, reports Press Trust of India.

The 44-year-old singer-composer had won his first Golden Globe in 2009 in the same category for Slumdog Millionaire, the Mumbai based potboiler which was again directed by British filmmaker Boyle.

Rahman's music in the film, starring James Franco as real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston, who cut off his arm to escape from beneath a boulder after being trapped for more than five days, had received good reviews for it's "haunting tracks" and "wonderful crescendos."

The soundtrack includes If I Rise, a collaboration between Rahman and American popstar Dido, says PTI.

The musician, known as the 'Mozart of Madras' had won two Oscars for his score in Slumdog Millionaire at the 2009 Oscars, taking the film's total haul to eight.

Arjun Rampal has signed a film with Pritish Nandy's company; so what's the big deal? Well, Arjun Rampal, who has been very close to SRK may not be aware of the possible ramifications...

Actor Arjun Rampal has recently signed a horror film with Pritish Nandy's daughter Rongita Nandy. This comes as a surprise to many possibly because Arjun Rampal has been pretty close to Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. So, what is this a big deal?

SRK and KJo have never got along with Pritish Nandy and the animosity between the two camps is almost legendary, reported Mumbai Mirror. It is believed that once KJo and SRK's wife Gauri went for a screening of Shabd, a film made under the Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) banner. And believe it or not, Rongita Nandy actually asked them to leave.

Ever since, the KJo-SRK camp swore to boycott the award ceremony hosted by PNC every year. The ceremony was eventually cancelled due to the absence of most A-listers.

This war has been on for the last six years and the two camps have been fairly rigid. "Arjun is not even aware of any problems between Karan, SRK and PNC," a source told the tabloid.

Rongita Nandy confirmed that Arjun was going to work in her film and even the source insisted that all was well between SRK and Arjun and they were still great friends.

Perhaps, now with Arjun becoming a part of the 'other' camp might actually be able to negotiate truce? Who knows?

Indian actors chase dreams

From "Spiderman" to "Mission Impossible," Bollywood actors are increasingly finding their way into mainstream Hollywood films.

As Hollywood brings more Indian and Asian characters into its stories, established stars in India are now looking for a career in the West, hoping to make it big in an industry Bollywood looks up to for inspiration.

"Slumdog Millionaire" actor Anil Kapoor has landed a role in the next Mission Impossible film, while Irrfan Khan, who worked with Angelina Jolie in "A Mighty Heart," has bagged roles in both the next Spiderman film and Ang Lee's forthcoming "Life of Pi," Indian media reported.

Success is not limited to the men. Bipasha Basu, who as one of Bollywood's most popular leading ladies also has her eyes set westwards, has won a role in Academy Award winning director Roland Joffe's next film, "Singularity."

"The Indian audience is increasing every day, not just in India, which is one of the fastest growing movie markets, but also in the US," said casting director Uma D'Cunha, who helped Joffe zero in on Basu.

"Indian audiences would watch a Hollywood film with a Bipasha Basu, rather than one that doesn't have an Indian connect," she added, referring to both Indians in their homeland as well as the Indian diaspora.
An actor would be unable to balance a flourishing career in India with one in Hollywood, especially since it would be tough to shuttle between Mumbai and Los Angeles.

GROWING MARKET

Chopra also said that while the growing Indian market will mean that there will be more roles for Indians in mainstream Hollywood, the scope of these roles will remain limited.

Indian actors have made sporadic appearances in Western films, but most of them have been bit parts in films that didn't really gain attention.

Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, a Bollywood superstar, acted in a couple of films, as did several other mostly male stars such as Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri, but none garnered much acclaim.

While the big 2009 Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, which was released in 2008, changed things a bit by ensuring that the West looked at India for stories, and Indian actors got noticed, plum roles for Indians in Hollywood remain illusive.

Frieda Pinto has bagged top roles, first in Slumdog Millionaire and then Woody Allen's "You will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger" and Juliet Schnabel's "Miral."

Pinto also has endorsement contracts and is working on three more Hollywood films, with actors such as Antonio Banderas and James Franco, but industry observers including Chopra pointed out that she didn't have much of a career in India to begin with.

Bihar firebrand Neetu Chandra takes on Indian home minister

Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra who hails from Bihar is terribly upset with Home Minister P.Chidambaram’s statement that ‘migrants commit crimes in Delhi’.

“Criminals commit crime, not migrants,” said Neetu. Learning that Chidambaram retracted his statement later, she remarked, “Are our politicians so fickle-minded that they make statements and retract them later?”

“We need leaders who unite us, not divide us like Britishers did,” said the firebrand.

“Migrants have been building Delhi. They have made the metros and the flyovers, the malls and the multiplexes and we all are proud of our capital. But such a statement from the Home Minister is not only disappointing but a very dangerous one. I hope there is a law against politicians who make such irresponsible remarks,” Neetu added.
