Mallika Sherawat playing politics everywhere! Whether she is making a film called ‘Politics of Love’ in USA, a film that was earlier called ‘Love Barack’ or her Hindi film ‘Dirty Politics’.

And we are sure that the actress seems to have learnt to play it the dirty way in India and Bollywood.

“If you have to live in India you have to play dirty politics and I do dirty politics,” the actress admits candidly at the launch of her new Hindi movie which is being produced and directed by KC Bokadia.

The actress actually admits to a faux pas or even a deliberate fake statement she made a few days ago. News was out a while back that she had been signed to work on the film based on the life of Bhanwari devi, the controversial nurse from Rajasthan who had been in the news for a lot of wrong reasons.

For those who are not in the know, Bhanwari devi was a nurse who was accused of trying to implicate a politician in a sex scandal. Bhanwari was later killed.

After the news of the film came out, Mallika used her publicity machinery to deny the story and even said that Bokadia was doing a publicity stunt and she was doing no such film. This was the dirty politics the actress had played then.

Mallika plays a bar dancer called Anokhi Devi who goes on to be a politician, She uses her body and her talent to become a politician. She also ensures that she manipulates every politician she can with her charm. “It is a very bold role to play and I am not trying to change my image through this. I am very happy with my image,” says the actress.

Mallika adds that everyone is a victim of politics. “I have played both dirty and good politics. The dirtier the better,” she admits, ensuring that she gives enough quotable quotes to keep the media interested.

The actress also adds that the role that she has taken on was something that other actresses fled from playing because of the risks involved. “I wanted to do this film. It is important that this film is made. No actress was ready to do this,” says the actress.

But then Mallika is quick to also clarify. “It’s not the complete story of Bhanwari Devi. It’s loosely based on the scandal,” she says.

Mallika also claims that she also received a few threatening calls because of the nature of the film and the kind of people involved. “My brother has been getting threat calls asking him to tell his sister (Mallika) not to do such a role,” she alleges.

Mallika says that she has taken it upon herself to let the people know the facts. “I want people to know the truth and what was the whole thing all about,” she says, despite claiming that the film is not on the complete story.
Long ago in 2000 Jagmohan Mundhra had also made a controversial film on Bhanwari Devi. But this was another Bhanwari Devi and the film ‘Bawandar’ was also based on a true story of a woman gang raped in 1992. Nandita Das played the lead role.
