Bollywood's Sporting Spirit: Sonam gears up for remake of 'Run Lola Run'

Now it will not be long before you hear how Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor is running hard to be in shape. No, she is not playing PT Usha or any other Indian sprinter or sportsperson, but she is gearing up to play the lead in the Indian adaptation of the International cult classic Run Lola Run.

Atul Kasbekar who had earlier produced the acclaimed film Neerja based on the life of slain air hostess Neerja Bhanot, has joined hands with the former CEO of Ekta Kapoor’s company Balaji – Tanuj Garg – to now make a film based on the 1988 classic from West Germany - Run Lola Run.

The makers are now in the process of acquiring the rights of the film for the remake. They are however tightlipped about the details, but sources state that using Garg’s business acumen, they will swing a good deal.

It is but imperative that after Neerja, Atul will want to work with Sonam Kapoor again, but is unclear as to who will helm the venture.

Interestingly a Bollywood Smart Alec registered a film called Run Bhola Run which was to star funny Bollywood actor Govinda in the lead. But the film was stalled after a few weeks of shooting for multiple reasons, including the bad market perception of the lead actor.

With Priyanka Chopra having played Mary Kom, Deepika Padukone being shortlisted to pay Saina Nehwal, Sonakshi Sinha playing a female boxer in Akira, it is indeed time for Sonam to get a bit ‘sporting’ on the acting front.
