After winning hearts on the pitch, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan is now batting for a humanitarian cause, as he gears up to host a charity dinner in Dubai on February 21 at Atlantis The Palm Jumeirah.
The charity gala fundraiser has been planned to raise money and awareness for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and its research centre, which was built by Khan in 1994 in Lahore, Pakistan in memory of his mother who passed away from the illness.
The politician is also planning to finance a second cancer hospital in Peshawar.
Khan, who will be hosting the dinner, will be joined by Pakistani pop band and Etihad Airways ambassadors, Strings, which is expected to perform live at the event that kicks off at 7.30pm.
Also on the agenda for the evening is a live auction and raffle, which will be followed by dinner.
As per its website, the 176-bed Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital has an annual budget of Pakistani Rs4.3 billion, with 75 per cent of its patients financially supported by the facility since 1994.
