Vishal-Shekhar to sizzle in Dubai

Published

Most artists in Bollywood adopt a signature style with their music that defines the soundtrack of their careers.

If the Oscar-winning AR Rahman is known for his eclectic, sometimes eccentric, fusion of funk with classical, then trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are masters at feel-good music that instantly transports you into a Karan Johar family drama.

And then there are those musical acts that don’t fit in neat little boxes, but rather trailblaze their way to the top of the charts with an experimental style, which always leaves the listener guessing what could possibly churn out next.

This title has been epitomised by music composer duo, Vishal and Shekhar, who will be performing in Dubai at the Madinat Arena, Madinat Jumeirah on Saturday, February 4, bringing with them their trademark posse of, what can only be termed as ‘desi music for an international audience’.

In a career spanning over a decade, Vishal-Shekhar have defined the sound of a generation in India and across border, with a stunning combination of talent and powerful performances.

Right from one of their first moments of recognition when they won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for the soundtrack of “Jhankaar Beats” (2003), the duo has turned with the tide to produce a volley of hit film soundtracks that include “Dus”, “Salaam Namaste”,  “Om Shanti Om”, “Bachna Ae Haseeno”, “Dostana”, “Anjaana Anjaani”, “Tees Maar Khan”, “The Dirty Picture” and so much more.

These days, the duo is still on a high for its collaboration with Grammy-winner Akon, on the Shah Rukh Khan film, “Chammak Challo”, which was also named as the most downloaded song and video of the year in a survey by wireless telephony major Airtel.

The track also won the gong as the best item number of 2011 in a Mid Day poll and topped the Mirchi Top 100 charts as the song of year.

According to organisers OME-Oberoi (Middle East) Events in partnership with Dubai Shopping Festival 2012, the Vishal-Shekhar concert is selling out fast, with most category tickets already being snapped up, which ranges from Dh150 to Dh1,000.

Doors open 8.30pm and concert starts 9.30pm. For details, call: 050 698 4599
