British boxer Amir Khan has become a father for the first time after his wife Faryal Makhdoom gave birth to a baby girl on Friday.

Khan, 27, announced the news on Twitter and later posted photos of the baby girl.

The former light-welterweight champion, and his wife Faryal, have given their daughter the Arabic name Lamysa, which means 'soft to the touch'.

Cradling Lamysa, Amir Khan tweeted: "Mine and @FaryalxMakhdoom New born baby LAMYSA. Born on 23rd May 2014 at 4:05am #Blessed".

"Decided to call our baby LAMYSAH not LAMYSA. It sounds the same but we added the H at the end of it as islamically it's the right spelling. Lamysah mean's soft and gentle", he continued.

Announcing the birth of the baby girl, Khan wrote, "Faryal and I are delighted to announce the birth our first child Lamysa Khan everyone doing very well, thank you for all your wishes."

Khan was elated and wants to treat himself with a super car, "It's time I treat myself with another super car. What you think, Ferrari 458 or Lamborghini Aventador LP700".

Khan and his wife met when she was a political science student in New York and got engaged in 2012.

The couple married in June last year at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, before returning to the UK for another ceremony attended by more than 4,000 guests in Amir's hometown of Bolton.

In an interview before his daughter's birth, Khan revealed he was ready to settle down and become a family man.

He said: "The past couple of years have been crazy - fighting, boxing. I've lived that single life, but it is the right time to settle down and be with the wife and have my own little family".

This good news comes as the Bolton boxer has been embroiled in lurid headlines about his private life.

There have been serious allegations about the pugilist cheating on pregnant wife Faryal Makhdoom.

Reports also surfaced that Faryal took the matter to her hand and confronted two girls he spent time with — and asked point blank: “Did you sleep with my husband?”

She had read enough news snippets about husband fooling around behind her back and wanted to deal with it herself.

Amir's playboy image has never been the over-riding reality of this most likeable young man.

But for the first time Amir is ready to make adjustments in life. This brings out a different, endearing dimension to the boy who thrilled Britain when he won silver at the Athens Olympics ten years ago.
