Deepika, Shah Rukh, Varun light up Screen Awards

The red carpet has been rolled out for the annual 20th Screen Awards. Here are the main highlights from the evening:

From Deepika Padukone to Kajol, Bollywood stars dazzled on Screen Awards red carpet. Deepika Padukone took home the Best Actress award for 'Ram Leela' and 'Chennai Express'.

Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award which was presented to the veteran actor by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Shatrughan Sinha.

For his friend Amitabh, Shatrughan said he's the "Pride of the nation and pride of the film industry."

Shatrughan added that Amitabh Bachchan should become the president of India. And if ever he (Shatrughan) was to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award he would love to received it from Amitabh's hands.

Deepika and her Chennai Express co-star Shah Rukh take to the stage for a jaw-dropping performance and entertained the audience with some scintillating moves.

The team of 'Yaariyaan' gave a breathtaking performance. This was followed by a disco beat session by Honey Singh.

After arriving in style, actor Varun Dhawan unveiled the specatcular Screen Awards set designed by Omung Kumar. Varun Dhawan soon did a flashback act on-stage.

R... Rajkumar actor Shahid Kapoor knows how to make an entry. He arrived on a chopper, and finally landed to enthrall the audience with a power-packed performance!

The winners list at this year’s awards in fact shows that Hindi cinema may finally be ready to break the rules it had set for itself. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag won Best Film, while Shoojit Sircar won Best Director for Madras Café.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela — Ram-Leela dominated the technical categories, with Best Costume (Anju Modi and Maxima Basu), Best Cinematography (S Ravi Varman) and Best Production Design (Wasiq Khan). The film’s leading lady, Bollywood’s latest golden girl Deepika Padukone, won Best Actor (Female) in both jury and popular categories.

Deepika’s Chennai Express co-star Shah Rukh Khan — also the main host for the evening — won Best Actor (Male) in the popular category; Farhan Akhtar, for his act as Milkha Singh, was the jury’s choice for the award.

Egyptian actress Aida El-Kashef and Sushant Singh Rajput won the Most Promising Debut awards in the Female and Male categories respectively. The Lunchbox, the love story of a 50-something government employee and a middle-class housewife, got Ritesh.
