Kurt Blum’s Swiss Art Gate was set up to initiate, foster and organise cultural projects between Switzerland and the UAE, and a three-day-long festival this weekend is the first real flowering of his efforts.
On Thursday, TV presenter and satirist Frank Baumann, of the show “Ein Fish Fuer 2” (or One Fish For Two’), offers German-speaking residents an entertaining evening about the joys and worries of a man and woman living together. He amuses the audience with his collection of pictures, illustrations and his humour.
On Friday, artists from both countries take to the stage for an entire show of percussion music, as the Duo SchlagArt – Raphael Christen and Klaus Schwaerzler – use their marimba and vibraphone to make music with the city’s Dubai Drums. SchlagArt are an internationally successful duo who produce spectacular music including classical compositions from Bach Rimsky-Korsakov.
And closing things out on Saturday is our favourite, the Swiss Nouveau Cirque, which lay on a sensual poetic medley of dance, jugglery, acrobatics, drama and performance art. Their “Rigolo” new-wave circus show has been described as a journey into the fascinating dimensions of movements, turns and spectacle – magical, poetic, breathtakingly brilliant!
